Edith Cowan (1861-1932) NEW
Edith Cowan was a pioneering Australian social worker, politician, and feminist who was the first woman to be elected to an Australian parliament. Elected to the Western Australian Legislative Assembly in 1921, she was a strong advocate for women's rights, children's welfare, and education, and was instrumental in passing laws like the Women's Legal Status Bill. Her legacy continues through organisations like Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Western Australia.
